1,Wash and boil the gram . 2 Peel and cut potatoes in to large pieces . 3 .when gram is half cooked add potatoes 4 . Boil till potatoes are soft . Add salt . 5. Roast fenugreek using a little oil . 6. Grind together coconut ,red chillies ,roasted fenugreek and tamarind to a fine paste . 7 . Add ground spices to gram and potatoes with sufficent liquid to barely cover solids . 8. Boil til spices are cooked. Remove . 9 . Heat oil . Fry finely chopped onions . When golden brown pour over ambat and mix well.
