Recipe of Cholar Dal

Ingredient Name Quantity Unit
Bengal Gram Dal 250 Grams
Coconut 1/2 Numbers
Cummin Seed 1 Teaspoons
Red Chilli Whole 4 Numbers
Asafoetida A Pinch
Sugar 1 Teaspoons
Salt To Taste
Vanaspati 50 Grams
Bay Leaves 2 Numbers
Soda A Pinch

Directions

  1. Soak the dal in a soda for about 1 hour.
  2. Boil dal with bay leaves and salt till cooked. Make sure it is not fully mashed.
  3. Cut coconut into small dices and fry in vanaspati till golden brown.
  4. Prepare a tempering by heating vanaspati in a frying pan and adding cummin seeds, red chilli whole and asafoetida.
  5. Add this to the dal. Add the coconut and sugar and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Serve hot with phulko luch.

And I have to add, this is traditionally made with chana daal not bengal gram

Hi, I love most recipes on this site and esp. love the videos. My only comment on this recipe is that this should be titled 'Cholaar Daal' not 'Gholar Dall' and it is a traditional Bengali recipe not Punjabi.
