Recipe of Green moong dal in Awadhi style

Ingredient Name Quantity Unit
Cream 1/2 Cup
Tomato Puree 1 Cup
Onion Chopped 1 Numbers
One-inch Piece Ginger, Chopped 1 oz
Green Chillies, Chopped 3 Numbers
Mustard Oil 50 ml
Green Moong Dal 200 Grams
Ghee 1 Tablespoons
1/2 Onion, Thinly Sliced 1/2 Numbers
Mint Leaves 1 Springs


In a handi heat the mustard oil, add the green moong without washing and saute well. Wash the moong and boil with sufficient water and turmeric. Add the chopped green chillies, ginger, onion and allow the dal to cook till tender, slightly mashed and thick. Season with salt, tomato puree and allow to simmer. Add the cream and simmer for another 3-4 minutes. In a small saucepan heat the ghee, add the onions and saute, add the mint leaves and pour into the dal as the tempering, mix well and serve hot.
