HEALTHY  RECIPES

Most Indian foods that are freshly cooked with fat free oil and less ghee are healthier. Indian foods have a wide variety of items that are nutritious, healthy and a well balanced meal. Such exotic and enriching menus are passed on from one generation to another through oral tradition in such a way that healthy habits are cultivated right from childhood.

Traditional Indian food like steamed rice, roti, variety of vegetable dishes, dals, yoghurt and curries are a healthy choice and well balanced in nutrition. The breakfast dishes of South India like the Kerala Puttu, Idli, Dosa, Pongal and many more variety are few of the healthy recipes.

The key idea to have a healthy diet is to avoid extra ghee, butter, cheese and oils. Indian Flat breads like the Naan, Rotis or Chapatti are healthier than other fried breads like Poori or stuffed Parathas. Roasted papads are far healthier than the deep fried ones.

Khandvi is an extremely popular Gujarati Snack made with Besan flour, very simple to make, and totally worth the effort! This can either cooked on a gas stove or microwave.

Curries prepared in South India are less oilier than the North India dishes. Dal (a lentil soup) can be eaten by itself or eaten with rice or Indian breads. Meat dishes like  the Tikka (not creamy tikka masala) and tandoori meats are healthy as they are oven roasted.

Soup is often called a meal in a bowl; Various forms of cooking remove the essential nutrients from the vegetables, but soups retain most of the essential vitamins and minerals and makes a nourishing and a healthy meal.

Soups can be easily made at home; Depending on the number of people to be served , the following healthy soups may be considered:
