Chinese stick is an exceptional and delicious snack made with a assortment of vegetables which includes beans, cabbage, capsicum, carrots and potatoes mixed with bread and spiced with some crushed green chilies and deep fried until golden brown.

Chinese stick makes one such delicious snack for most of the kids and young ones as it includes a variety of vegetables. Kids love eating potato chips, puffs, samosas everyday. For making innovative and yummy healthy snacks one should use fruits, vegetables, grains or legumes that are high in fiber, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates.

Chinese sticks made with beans, cabbage, capsicum, carrots and potatoes together makes it healthy and nutritious. They are crispy on the outer side and soft and smooth inside. French beans or green beans are extensively used in Chinese cooking. They are neutral in nature and can be consumed frequently. French beans make great soups and are highly nutritious. French beans are a versatile vegetable that can be used for various stir-fries such as Stir-Fried French Beans and Carrots and Spicy Pork with French Beans. Steamed minced pork with chopped French beans is a popular Chinese traditional dish. French beans are very good source of protein, carbohydrates and dietary fiber and very low in fats. French beans also contain calcium, phosphorus, folic acid, vitamins A, B, D and starch. French beans are a good source of various nutrients involved in the detoxification process. Thus they reduce the risk of various inflammatory, degenerative and cardiovascular diseases, and promote optimal health.

Cabbage is a low-glycemic food, which will help control blood sugar and insulin. While one of the health benefits of cabbage, and many other vegetables, is as a natural diuretic, which helps the body get rid of excess fluids and salts, adding all of the salt found in the bouillon and the onion soup mix would counteract the diuretic effect of the cabbage and other vegetables. However, cabbage is a good source of vitamin C and dietary fiber and including it as a part of a healthy diet is fine.

Capsicum is another well popular vegetable used widely in Chinese cooking and has been cultivated for thousands of years now. It is available in a variety of colors like red, yellow and green, it’s also known as bell pepper, jalapeno and chilli. Rich in vitamins, it’s an effective cure for many diseases. Along with the various medicinal properties, capsicum is also a great ingredient for many yummy recipes. Capsicum Sada Masala, Capsicum Masala Rice is few popular recipes made with capsicum. Eating capsicum helps in keeping the skin clear, prevents rashes and pimples. It contains vitamin A, which is good for eyes and helps prevent eye diseases.

For this yummy and delicious Chinese sticks, firstly boil, peel and mash potatoes. Add salt to taste. Chop carrots and beans into very fine pieces and keep aside. Chop cabbage very finely. Add salt and keep aside for 5 – 10 minutes. Squeeze out the excess water. Chop capsicum finely. Crumble bread pieces and keep aside.

Heat a tablespoon of oil in a pan, add chopped carrots and beans. Stir fry and then add cabbage, capsicum, one teaspoon ajinomoto, crushed green chilies and salt to taste. Stir fry and remove from heat and cool. To the mashed potato, add the cooled vegetable mixture and crumbled bread pieces and mix well. Make lemon sized balls and shape like 2-3 inches sticks and deep fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain the excess oil on paper towel and serve hot with either tomato or chilli sauce.
