Every thing about STRAWBERRY PIE | Vahrehvah :

Strawberry Pie

Strawberry pie is a popular delicious dessert food made of strawberries, sugar, a pie crust and sometimes gelatin. About 70% of the pie by weight is strawberries and is often served with whipped cream or with ice cream. In Western culture, dessert is a course that traditionally comes at the end of the meal which usually consists of sweet food. The word comes from the French language as dessert and this old French desservir, ‘to clear the table’ and ‘to serve’. Common desserts include the cakes, cookies, gelatin, pastries, ice cream, pie and candies. Fresh fruits are also eaten with dessert. The word dessert is most commonly used for this course in U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, while sweet, puddings are alternative terms used in the UK and some other Commonwealth countries, including India. Desserts are often eaten with a dessert spoon, intermediate in size between a teaspoon and a tablespoon. Strawberry pie is a traditional dessert favorite to most of the adults and children. A classic strawberry pie has a single pie crust and whipped cream prepared especially during the late spring and summer when fresh strawberries are at their peak and served as a dessert or snack. A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry dough casing that covers or contains a filling of various sweet or savory ingredients. Pies can be either "filled", where a dish is covered by pastry and the filling is placed on top of that, "top-crust," where the filling is placed in a dish and covered with a pastry/potato mash top before baking, or "two-crust," with the filling completely enclosed in the pastry shell. Pies can be a variety of sizes, ranging from bite-size to ones designed for multiple servings. You can make several fruit pies like banana pie, lemon pie or coconut pie and savory pies like vegetable pie or meat pies. The first pies appeared around 9500 BC, in the Egyptian Neolithic period or New Stone Age, when the use of stone tools shaped by polishing or grinding became common. Early pies were known as galettes, wrapping honey as a treat inside a cover of ground oats, wheat, rye or barley. These galettes developed into a form of early sweet pastry or desserts, evidence of which can be found on the tomb walls of the Pharaoh Ramesses II, who ruled from 1304 to 1237 BC, located in the Valley of the Kings. The 1st century Roman cookbook Apicius makes various mentions of various recipes which involve a pie case. By 160 BC, Roman statesman Marcus Porcius Cato (234-149 BC) who wrote De Agri Cultura, notes the recipe for the most popular pie/cake called Placenta. Also called libum by the Romans, it was more like a modern day cheesecake on a pastry base, often used as an offering to the gods. With the development of the Roman Empire and its efficient road transport, pie cooking spread throughout Europe. For preparing this delicious strawberry pie, firstly combine sugar with flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Toss lightly with the strawberries. Fill the baking dish with the fruit mixture and dot with butter. Top with the pastry which has been rolled out on pasty cloth to size 1” larger all around than top of baking dish. Fold the edges of pastry under and press firmly to rim of dish. Flute edges and cut gashes in pasty to allow steam to escape. Bake at 425 degrees for 25 minutes or till the crust is browned. Serve slightly warm with whipped cream or ice cream. The healthiest way to consume this food is to avoid eating it after a meal and have it as a snack instead. They are potent source of antioxidants, molecules that fight the deleterious effects of our poor dietary choices. These antioxidants are thought to help prevent cancer and heart disease, among other ailments. In North America, fruit pies are served with a scoop of ice cream in style as pie a la mode. Many sweet pies are served this way. Apple pie is a traditional choice, though any pie with sweet fillings may be served à la mode.
