Eating outside is fun, no cooking hassles, no cutting and cleaning jobs, no sweating out in the kitchen struggling with various spices and ingredients is what runs through our minds when we have a get together or party at home and love to eat out.

Often in most homes, there are arguments between dining out and eating at home. This could be of various reasons because of the busy lifestyle or the homemaker of the house would like to shift from the routine and monotonous kitchen duties and wishes to eat out.

Now we need to sit back and think which is healthier between these two? This is truly confusing as busy people who don’t get time prefer dining out as they don’t get time to cook their food and they also feel that there are a number of food chains and restaurant which claim to serve good and delicious food. There are also few groups of people like bachelors, working women etc who purely rely on outside food only like mess, canteen etc. How do these people look out for eating healthy food outside?

Is Eating Outside Food Good? There are various advantages and disadvantages in eating outside food. One problem might be that the restaurant food is expensive; another problem is the food might be unhealthy or the food would not be as per your taste. Nowadays there are various homemade food stalls, curry points or even a section of women who cook and cater to specific needs or else you could also prepare small and easy healthy meals in the room itself which is one of the best options.

Advantages of eating out: Dining out can break up the regular routine once in a while. You can use discount coupons at the restaurants which will not cost much. Wish to try something new dishes with different flavors to add some fun and dining experience to your meal. Celebrating a special occasion, birthday, wedding anniversary etc where you could spend time with your friends instead of hanging around in the kitchen. Food ordered will come in just short period of time.

Disadvantages of eating outside: Mainly it is the quality of food, cost and the ambiance where your eat. The food will not be of the taste you prefer. Highly expensive, unhealthy and will have the same taste and flavors. Generally when you eat outside food, you can’t have control over the amount of things like fat, saturated fat and sodium in the food like when you prepare it at home yourself.

At home you can take control by making varied smart choices. Eating outside does not mean that you have to really give up healthy eating. Nowadays there are various food stalls and restaurant that cater to healthy foods also like soups, salads, fat-free starters, main course, sugar free desserts etc. It is also considered that south Indian food is basically low in fat and cholesterol.

Eat portion sized foods and don’t indulge in super-sized portions. Pay attention on what to eat and how much you eat is the first step to healthy eating outside. Eat foods that are low in fats, cholesterol and rich in nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibers. Include more of vegetables and fresh fruits, seafood, lean meats, poultry and eggs.

Avoid cream based soups as they are high in fat and calories. Clear soups can be a great appetizer as well as a meal. Keep salad dressing and sauces separate on the side so that you can add as per your taste. Drink plain water/ coconut water/ buttermilk instead of aerated cool drinks.

Try eating baked, grilled, broiled, steamed or poached foods as they are low in fat. Include whole wheat breads along with some curry type vegetable dish. Avoid fries and stir fry dishes. If you love and are craving for sweet then share a dessert or opt for low fat, naturally sweet fruit juices.
