Description : this recipe is made from tapioca cooking in the malaylan style, using banana leaf.

Directions | How to make Maravallikizhangu Ilaiappam
 
*remove the skin of the tapioca and grate it. * take two cups of the gratings and add a pinch of salt to it and leave it aside for a few minutes. * after sometime it will give out water. squeeze out the water gently and make it dry using tissue papers. *make a pooran by mixing the coconut sugar/ jaggerypowder and cardomom powder. *spread the gratings on a small sized banana leaf ,keep 2 to 3 tsp of the pooran in the middle, and close the leaf. * prepare some more in a similar way and steam in an idli cooker. * remove the steamed tapioca appams from the leaf and serve.

Hello, I am Mrs Chitra Shanmugam from Pondicherry. I got the idea of doing this appam during a heavy pouring rainy season, when all the communication including power was totally cut and I had only tapioca and coconut were available at home. intially I prepared pidi kozhukattai with the same ingredients. I never expected that It will turn watery. As the recipe was relished by everyone at home I thought of changing it to another. This is easily and quickly done, and is totally oil-free.
