Description: Rasam is a spicy and tasty thin, light soup prepared in south Indian style and usually served with steamed rice.

Recipe of Rasam

Tamarind Paste 1/4 Teaspoons
Turmeric Powder 1/4 Teaspoons
Urad Dal 1 Teaspoons
Little Fenugreek (methi) Seeds 1 To Taste
Medium Sized Tomato 1 Pinch
Chilli Pdr 1/2 Teaspoons
Coriander Pdr 5 Grams
Cumin Pdr 5 Grams
Garlic 1 Piece
Green Chillies 2 Pint
Hing 1 Pinch
Jeera 1 Teaspoons
Salt 1 To Taste
Red Chillis 2 Numbers
Peppers 3/4 Teaspoons
Onion Optional 1 Small
Mustard 2 Grams

Directions

  1. put water on stove add all ingredients and bring it to boil (except tadka items  make a good tadka with groung masala and top it on rasam and simmer  Your rasam is ready.

Thanks a lot chef for the wonderful rasam recipe.
Every time i make rasam it used to be too sour, but after seeing your video I made a wonderful rasam and most of all my husband loved it.
I learned many new recipe from you like the Tindora Fry (The best) , Verity of Rice , cutlet etc.

this recipe i had tasted when i had gone to a friends place more than 15 yrs ago n since then always wondered y i didnt take the recipe when i came across this recipe i only tried it cause i remembered my friends mom put a lot of garlic in it .............it was exactly the taste i remembered n want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful recollection of old memories

hi Sanjay,
I have seen a lot of video demos of your veg dishes. and finally i was interested to see how You make my favourite dish for rice which is Rasam. It was also equally good and easy to make. I am making rasam since last 8 years and in any kind of rasam inspite of doing alterations to make different kind of rasams (almost there are 7 kinds of rasams i make), I follow a standard process to make rasam, which is to add tamird juice first to the boiling tomato and other spices and finally when it is about to be done add the dhal water.

This suggestion I am making after i saw your demo for basic rasam, as I felt there should not be a basic mistake in your cooking of Rasam.

I have given very good comments about lot of your other dishes and I would like to make this small suggestion to have this correction included.

Thanks for all your other receipes and secrets of cooking. !!! I enjoy very much on your website.
