Ingredients used in Sambar with Field Green Beans
• Chana daal and toor daal - 1 cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Coconut - 1 tablespoon.
• Sambar powder - 1 tablespoon.
• Tamarind juice - ½ cup.
• Turmeric powder - 1 pinch.
• Asafoetida - 1 pinch.
• Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Red chilies - 3 numbers.
• Cumin seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Mustard seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Oil - 1 tablespoon.
• Coriander chopped - 1 tablespoon.
• Field green beans - 250 grams.
• Curry leaves - 1 spring.
Method:
  • Heat a pan add oil, add mustard seeds, when mustard seeds splutter add cumin seeds, red chili, fenugreekseeds, asafoetida, turmeric powder add field beans, saute it for a minute.
  • Then add tamarind juice, water, sambar powder, ground coconut, salt, cook this on a slow flame for 15 minutes.
  • Then add toor daal and chana dal (boiled), add chopped coriander leaves.

Serve this with rice.

yes it is. Sambar can be made both with and without coconut.

i m so confused. in our country v hardly see ppl add tamarind juice into any sambar. little tomato oni. u add so much of tamarind juice. does it not taste sour????????

No. It wont make it sour. Tamarind juice is not tamarind concentrate. It is slightly sour. Not as you are thinking. Happy Cooking. :)
