Ingredients used in Doi Mach (Fish in Creamy Yoghurt)
• Slitted green chillies - 4 numbers.
• Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoons.
• Tumeric powder - 2 teaspoons.
• Coriander powder - 1.5 teaspoons.
• Cumin powder - 1.5 teaspoons.
• Yoghurt - 4-5 tablespoons.
• Any fish (drum, bass, red fish) - 6 piece.
• Salt - 1 to taste.
• Onion paste - 1 large.
• Whole garam masala (each) - 4-5 numbers.
• Bay leaves - 2 numbers.
• Oil - 4 tablespoons.
Step 1: Cut the onions in medium pieces and make a smooth paste of the onion in the blender. Pour out the mixture in a bowl and keep aside. Step 2: Marinate the six pieces of fish with salt and turmeric powder. You can use any fish which you like for example - bass, drum, milk fish, catfish, red snapper, etc (If you are in India you can try it with any local fish available to you) Step 3: In a heavy bottom pan add some oil and fry the marinated fish pieces evenly. Place the fried fishes in a bowl and keep aside Step 4: In a separate small bowl one add the yoghurt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, chilli powder and mix well. The mixture should form a smooth paste. If required you can add few drops of water. Step 5: Now in the heavy bottom pan, (in which you fried the fish) add some more oil and allow the oil to heat up. Add the whole garam masalas along with the bay leaves. Step 6: When the garam masalas start to splutter add the onion paste. Keep frying the onion paste for about 10 minutes until it oozes out oil and turns dark in color. Now add some salt and mix well. Now add the yoghurt mixture as prepared in Step 4. Mix well and add some water if needed. Step 7: Once the gravy comes to boil add the fried fish pieces. Give a slight stir to the gravy and reduce the flame to medium-low. Now check the salt. If needed add some more. Step 8: Switch off the flame after 5-8 minutes of cooking. Doi Mach is ready. Add the slitted green chillies on top. You can enjoy now your doi mach.
