Ingredients used in Garlic dal
• Garlic - very finely chopped - 5 clove.
• Cumin (jeera) seeds - 2 teaspoons.
• Whole green chillies - 2 numbers.
• Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoons.
• Chana dal - 1/4 cup.
• Tur dal - 1 cup.
• Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoons.
• Clarified butter (ghee) - 1 tablespoons.
Method:
Pressure cook the tur dal and chana dal with salt and turmeric powder till they are mashed. Cook it to a thick consistency. If they are not completely mashed, quickly mash it with a laddle or a masher. Heat 1 Tbsp of ghee (use only ghee for the best flavour of garlic to infuse in the dal) add cumin seeds. Once cumin seeds crackle add red chilli powder slit whole green chillies. Press the green chillies a little so that the flavour infuses in the ghee. Now add the very finely chopped garlic to the ghee and do not brown it. Just before it starts to brown add it to the cooked dal. (This will be really fast since we should not really cook the garlic too much). Heat the dal just till it starts to boil. Switch off gas and serve with rice or chappatis. The aroma of the garlic and the garlic pieces add to the taste of the dal. This is very simple, nutritious since it has no masalas. Plain and awesome!
