Quick and easy Black bean soup is an excellent and nourishing soup that any one would love to eat. Soup is an amazing starter that most of us enjoy relishing, mainly for its different flavors and taste. This is an interesting and amazing quick soup made of canned Black beans. Black bean is a variety of the common bean scientifically known as Phaseolus vulgaris and is a popular legume. When cooked, it has a rich flavor, velvety texture, shiny, dark, shell like appearance and nice consistency.

Black bean is an important staple in the cuisines of Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. It is widely used as its rich in Protein and Iron content. Black beans are available throughout the year in both dried and canned forms. Dried beans are generally available in prepackaged containers as well as in bulk bins. While purchasing black beans in bulk or in packaged containers, make sure that there is no evidence of moisture or insect damage and that they are whole and not cracked.

Canned black beans are readily available in most of the super markets or malls. Generally dried black beans take a longer time to cook, hence most of times canned black beans are for quick cooking and more convenience. Canned beans need to only be heated briefly for hot recipes while they can be used as is for salads or prepared cold dishes like black bean salad.

While using canned black beans for your recipe, always remember to rinse them well after opening the can to remove unnecessary additions. Black bean has a dense and meaty texture making it popular in vegetarian dishes like the Black bean Burrito. It is also popularly used in various areas of Brazil and is used in the national dish namely Feijoada. This bean widely used for making into soups.

In Cuba, black bean soup is a traditional dish usually served with white rice. The Black beans are widely used in making of various recipes in North India too. It is commonly called as Rajma in Hindi. The Rajma masala is a popular Indian dish that is eaten with steamed white rice.

For preparing this quick and easy black bean soup, firstly add in few bacon pieces in a saucepan and cook them well in little oil. Cook on medium heat until soft. Add one finely chopped onions and sweat it out for about 5 minutes or until it becomes translucent.

Add little finely minced garlic and fry till the raw flavors are gone. Next add in some Chicken broth or Vegetable stock which pairs well with bacons and cook on medium high heat for few minutes. Add some dried oregano, thyme, and little salt and stir well.

Add 2 cans of canned black beans (which is drained and rinsed well before use). Mix well and add 1 can of water. Turn the heat to medium high and cook well. Mash half of the black beans with a potato masher as it is cooking. This makes the soup thick and dense.

Turn the heat to medium low and cook the soup for about 20 mins. Add in some seasoning with black pepper, cumin and little salt and mix well. Cook till the right consistency and taste the soup and adjust the seasoning as per your taste and choice.

Black bean soup goes well with a delicious green onions, red chilli paste and lime juice relish. Take few finely chopped green onions, a spoon full of red chilli paste or sambal and some lime juice and mix well. Keep aside.

Serve the Black bean soup in the soup bowls and top it with some sour cream and over it decorate it with the colorful and delicious relish. The soup looks truly attractive, full of colors and plush to the palate.

The relish enhances the flavors of the Black bean soup with its sharpness from the green onions, heat from its red chilli peppers and tanginess from the sour cream. This makes a perfect and ideal twist to this awesome soup.
