Ingredients used in Tadka Dal
• Green chilli (finely chopped) optional - 2 numbers.
• Jeera powder - 1/4 teaspoons.
• Coriander powder - 1 teaspoons.
• Dry red chillies - 3 numbers.
• Cumin seeds - 2 teaspoons.
• Musturd seeds - 1/4 teaspoons.
• Tomatoes (big size , finely chopped) - 1 numbers.
• Onions (finely chopped) - 2 numbers.
• Toor dal (well cooked and mashed) - 1 cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Oil - 4 tablespoons.
• Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 teaspoons.
• Coriander (finely chopped) - 1 teaspoons.
• Garlic (finely chopped) - 1 teaspoons.
Method:
Put Kadai on stove and heat 2 tbsp oil in it. Now put half of the chopped onions into it and fry till cooked, then put the chopped tomatoes in it and fry little. Now put ginger garlic paste and fry. Put coriander powder, jeera powder and chopped green chillies. We can use red chilli powder in place of green chillies as per our taste.Now fry little and then put cooked toor dal, little water and mix well. Let it cook on low heat till oil comes out or for 10 min. The tomatoes should appear totally dissolved into the dal. Now add salt and chopped coriander and mix well. Turn off the stove. Tadka i.e; tempering should be done just before the dal is being served. So for the tadka, put small kadai on stove and heat 2 tbsp oil, put musturd seeds and let them crackle. Now put dry red chillies, cumin seeds and chopped garlic, fry till nice smell. Now put the rest of chopped onions and fry till the onions turn to brown color. Now put this tadka on top of the previously prepared dal and do not mix both till it is being served.
