Pasta is one important ingredient synonymous with Italy and Italian food. If you look closely, most cuisines around the world appear different but if seen closely you will find more similarities than differences. However vast and diversified we are, ultimately we are all a global community and love tasting and preparing various types of cuisines according to our tastes and ingredients available.

Most Italians who have migrated to different parts of the world have taken this quintessential ingredient to reach out other areas they have inhabited. As we are now accustomed to eating yummy pizzas as well as tomato sauce from the Italian cuisine, pastas have also widely spread around the world taking its place into the global cuisines.

Pasta It is a type of noodle and a staple food of the traditional Italian cuisine. Typically, they are made with unleavened dough from durum wheat flour mixed with water and formed into various shapes. It can also be made with various other flours from cereals or grains and eggs may be used instead of water. Broadly, pasta is divided into two categories, dried and the fresh. Both dried and fresh come in different shapes and sizes which include long, short, tubes, flat, sheet and decorative shapes. Some common types of pasta are macaroni, farfalle (looks like a bow tie), fettuccine, fusilli (spirals) etc. Now days, pasta has become a delicacy in every pantry and a sure-fire kid pleaser comfort food.

Kids love eating it during snack time or as light meal. A nice yummy, mouth-watering, luscious sauce makes the dish zesty and is a treat to the taste buds. Pasta sauces vary in taste, colour and texture. There is no hard and fast rule in using a particular sauce, so you can make a delicious sauce of your liking and taste to blend with the pasta. Cheese is one of important ingredient that is mixed in the pasta that gives a nice creamy and buttery taste.

The ratio of sauce to pasta varies according to taste and texture, however traditionally the sauce should not be excessive as the pasta itself must still be tasted. Pasta Sauce There are a variety of sauces that one can prepare for making the pasta sauce. The sauce and type of pasta are usually matched based on the consistency and ease of eating.

Traditionally in northern Italy, they use less tomato sauce, garlic and herbs while in southern Italy the sauces are more complex in variations and are paired with fresh vegetables, olives, capers or seafood with tomato sauce. Generally the sauces are either cream or tomato based but tomatoes are said to be the key ingredient in many pasta sauces and is staple ingredient in Italian cuisine.

Marinara sauce is the traditional tomato based pasta sauce made with diced tomatoes combined with finely chopped garlic, onions, red pepper flakes and other ingredients simmered until they become a saucy consistency.
