Vada Adai is an incredible breakfast/ snack dish especially for kids. Vada Adai is a thick small vada shaped made with adai batter adding other seasonings like onions, crushed blackpepper, cumin, coriander leaves, ginger and coconut pieces to give an intense flavour to the vada adai. This dish is crispy, tastes too good and alluring to the palate. Goes extremely well with sambar and any spicy chutney! This snack is an innovation mix of making the vada with adai batter as adai is a very nutritious and healthy food to eat.


Eating adai daily would often make your kids and family get bored, hence adding few seasoning, onions, green chillies, fresh coriander leaves etc would naturally enhance the taste of the dish. Vada is one alluring snack that most of the kids love to eat as they are crisp and crunchy to eat. Vada Vada is one of the most traditional south Indian breakfast dish served with either coconut chutney or sambar. It is doughnut shaped and a small hole made in the center. It is made with urad dal or Bengal gram. It is a popular tiffin item normally eaten for breakfast or any time. Vada is a urad dal based fried snack is one of the delights from the South Indian cuisine. The urad dal is soaked ground together with spices and deep fried. The vada served its accompaniments makes a complete balanced meal.


The vadas are really delicious as their outer casings are crispy crackling and soft spongy inside with hardly any traces of oil smell or greasy taste. Eating the vada combined with sambar and coconut chutney is a match made in heaven and the taste is simply divine. You can also prepare delicious Dahi vadas which the vadas. Adai Adai is one of the most popular, nutritious lentil crepe breakfast dishes from the south Indian cuisine. It is made of four healthy lentils like the channa dal, moong dal, tur dal and urad dal, spiced with red chillies, fresh peppercorns and flavoured with ginger pieces. Rich in carbohydrates and proteins, it is a very simple yet very delicious and nutritious to eat.


Generally known as Adai dosa, it is served with coconut chutney and made into slightly medium thick pancake. As Adai is a multi lentil crepe, it is crispy, light and a stomach filling breakfast. Adai is a very filling and satisfying dish which keeps your day going. It tastes very good all by itself but when has with avial it has a heavenly and pleasant taste. Recipe of Vada Adai:



Ingredients:



  1. Rice                                 -       1 cup

  2. Tur dal                             -       1 tbsp

  3. Channa dal                      -       1 tbsp

  4. Red chillies                      -      3-4 nos

  5. Curry leaves                     -       few

  6. Hing                                 -       pinch

  7. Salt                                  -       to taste

  8. Onions, finely chopped    -       1 no

  9. Black pepper, crushed     -       ½ tsp

  10. Cumin seeds                    -       ½ tsp

  11. Coconut pieces                -       1 tbsp

  12. Ginger, finely chopped     -       ¼ tsp

  13. Coriander, finely chopped        -      1 tbsp

  14. Oil for frying


Method:



  1. In a bowl put in the rice, channa dal, toor dal, dry red chillies and curry leaves. Add water, wash the ingredients nicely once and drain off the water. Put in the hing, salt and water till all the lentils are soaked properly and rest aside for at least for 3-4 hrs.

  2. Drain the water and grind them in a blender to a coarse paste. The batter needs no fermentation.

  3. To this batter add, finely chopped onions, crushed black pepper, cumin seeds, coconut pieces, chopped ginger and finely chopped coriander leaves. Mix the batter well.

  4. Take a flat non stick pan and pour 1 spatula batter in the pan and spread evenly from inside out in the shape of a vada and make a hole in the center with a spoon.

  5. Drizzle some oil at the edges of the adai and in the center. Cook it on medium flame.

  6. Cover with a lid and allow it to steam cook for few minutes. Brown it on one side and then flip over to the other side for a minute.

  7. Serve hot with sambar, coconut chutney or some spicy chutney.
