Description: Narali Bhaat is a typical Maharashtra preparation. Naral means coconut and bhaat is rice in Marathi. This preparation is made as a "naivedya" for Narali Poornima. It can be enjoyed almost as a dessert. Many times Indian festival meals includes a sweet rice dish and this one is particularly festive.



Recipe of NARALI BHAT

Ingredient Name Quantity Unit
Cashew Nuts 1 Tablespoons
Cardamom Powder 1 Teaspoons
Salt Pinch
Ghee/ Clarified Butter 2 Tablespoons
Jaggery, Powdered 200 Grams
Freshly Ground Coconut 100 Grams
Rice 250 Grams
Raisins 1 Tablespoons
Hot Water As Needed

Directions

1. Clean and wash rice. Soak rice in water for 15 minutes and drain the water and keep aside.
2. Add 1 tbsp ghee in a hot pan, add ground coconut paste and sauté well for few minutes.
3. Add the soaked rice, raisins, cashew nuts and pinch of salt (it increases the taste of sweet dishes). Mix the entire ingredients and sauté the rice nicely. Add hot water and allow the rice to cook. When the moisture get slightly reduced,
4. add powdered jaggery, cardamom powder, cover and cook over a slow flame until the rice is completely done.
 5. Narali Bhat is ready to serve.
