Ingredients used in Carissa Pulihora
• Carissa / vakkaya - 150 grams.
• Water - 2 cups.
• Salt - to taste.
• Turmeric powder - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Rice - 1 cup.
• Dry red chilies - 4 numbers.
• Mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Chana dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Peanuts - 1 tea spoon.
• Urad dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Hing/asafoetida - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Curry leaves - 2 springs.
• Sesame seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Oil - 2 tablespoons.
Method:
  • Firstly remove the seeds of carissa, grate them and keep aside.
  • Boil water in a pan, add salt, turmeric powder, soaked rice and cook it.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when they splutter, add dry red chilies, cumin seeds, chana dal, peanuts, urad dal, hing, turmeric powder, curry leaves, sesame seeds and saute for about half a minute.
  • Now add grated carissa along with some water and mix well.
  • Adjust the seasoningby adding salt, also transfer the cooked rice and give it a goodmix.

Delicious Carissa Pulihora is now ready to serve.
