Eggplant Gotsu for Ven Pongal

Ingredients used in Eggplant Gotsu for Ven Pongal
• Tamarind juice - 1/4 cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Tomatoes(chopped) - 2 numbers.
• Onions (optional) - 1 number.
• Curry leaves - 2 springs.
• Mustard seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Red chilies - 5 numbers.
• Chana dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Urad dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Coriander seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Oil - 1 tablespoon.
• Eggplant - 250 grams.
• Moong dal - 1 cup.
• Carrot - 1 number.
• Coriander leaves (chopped) - 1 tablespoon.
• Turmeric powder - 1 pinch.
• Sugar - 1 pinch.
Method:
  • Heat a pan add coriander seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, chana dal, red chilies, roast this and put it in the blender and make a masala powder.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilies, asafoetida, curry leaves, onions (optional), turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, eggplant pieces, salt, tamarind juice, put the lid on and cook this till raw flavor is gone.
  • Add moong dal, carrot (boiled), masala powder, water add sugar, mix this once come to a boil and cook it for 5 minutes.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.

Serve with Ven Pongal

Chef, I liked your videos. Here's my observation: Hings and onion may kind of null their flavors. for gotshu - no need for dhal/ masala - just add some fenugreek in tadka and it will smell good. int he end rice flour / besan should make it thick.

Honestly, I never knew a recipe such as 'Gotsu' exists! I literally LOVE eggplant as a vegetable and want to incorporate it somehow in all my dishes. So I 'came up' with a similar recipe to gotsu, execpt I make a nice tomato souplike
