Recipe of sambar

Ingredient Name Quantity Unit
Toor Dal 1/2 Cup
Tamarind Juice 3 Cup
Onion 1 Numbers
Tomato 1 Numbers
Mustard Seed 1/2 Teaspoons
Cumin Seed 1/2 Teaspoons
Curry Leaves Leaf
Coriander Leaves Leaf
Salt To Taste
Oil To Fry


Wash and clean the toor dal and add 2 cups of water in cooker and cook until it becomes smooth and keep it aside.

In a pan heat the oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and fry until it gets brown then add onion and make a deep fry until it becomes golden brown.

Now add the tomato in it and fry until oil comes out, then add the sambar powder in it and fry for a min, add the tamarind juice and cooked toor dal and salt and mix it well.

Now let it to boil for 10 min and then lower the heat andcook it for again 5 min.

Now it gets very thick and add coriander leaves.

Serve with hot steamed rice.

Surprisingly the details of the ingredients are missing. What is prepared here is known as ULLI Sambar. Made out of small onion. The agent which give the flavour of sambar is given by the asofoetida. which is missing from the list. The Sambar powder is made by various companies in different taste. One should present the recipe in the original mode.

dear sanjay,please post the video also for sambar..whenever i try to prepare sambar it doesnot come so good and nice gravy like restuarent..please help me.
