Ingredients used in Rasam
• Tamarind pulp - 1/4 cup.
• Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Rasam powder - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Medium sized tomato chopped - 1 number.
• Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Pepper - 3/4 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Urd dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Cloves of garlic - 2 number.
• Salt - to taste.
• Ghee - as required.
• Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Dry red chilies - 2 number.
Method:
  • Heat little ghee, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
  • Then add red dry chillies, tomatoes, garlic cloves and a little water and let it cook till tomatoes are slightly tender.
  • Roast together urad dal, cumin seeds, peppercorns and fenugreek seeds in a pan then grind to a fine powder.
  • Once the tomatoes are cooked, add one more cup of water along with rasam powder, turmeric powder, salt, tamarind and the ground masala, cook it by stirring occasionally on medium flame.
  • Serve Rasam with hot rice.
