Ingredients used in Venn Pongal (Khara Pongal)
• Fresh coconut - 1/4 cup.
• Ginger - 1 piece.
• Garlic - 4 clove.
• Black pepper - 1 tablespoons.
• Jeera - 1 tablespoons.
• Ghee - 4-5 tablespoons.
• Moong dal - 1/2 cup.
• Rice - 1 cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Green chillies - 2 numbers.
Method:
Wash the Rice and Moong Dal, set aside Chop the ginger in to small peices Crush the garlic with garlic crusher Slice the chillies into 2 peices each Grate the fresh coconut Now to make Venn Pongal 1. Keep the pressure cooker amp; heat on the stove for 2 mins and add ghee to the vessel. 2. Add jeera, it starts to splutter 3. Now add the crushed garlic, ginger cut in to small peices and Black pepper 4.Fry for 2 mins and add the grated coconut and again fry for 4-5 mins 5. Add the washed Moong Dal and Rice and fry for another 5 mins. 6. Add Salt amp; Pour water . Now close the Pressure cooker lid. 7. Remove from the stove after 4-5 Whistles are done 8. Serve hot either with coconut chutney or Sambhar
