MOONG DAL AND RIDGE GOURD DAL

Ingredients used in MOONG DAL AND RIDGE GOURD DAL
• Ridge gourd - 1-2 numbers.
• Oil - 3 tablespoons.
• Mustard seed - 1 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Garlic - 8 cloves.
• Curry leaves - 1 spring.
• Onion(chopped) - 1 number.
• Moong dal - 1 cup.
• Green chillies - 3 numbers.
• Turmeric powder - 1/2 tea spoon.
Method:
  • Soak the moong dal for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the peel of ridge gourd and cut into pieces.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seed, cumin seeds, garlic, green chillies, onions, curry leaves, salt and saute it.
  • Add ridge gourd and turmeric powder and mix thoroughly and place the lid and cook it on slow flame.
  • To it add moong dal, sufficient water and mix thoroughly and place the lid and cook it for 10 minutes.

Now the moong dal and ridge gourd dal is ready to serve with rice.

Have not seen Ridge gourd in Trivandrum. Can I try the same dish with Bottle gourd or snake gourd.?
