Ingredients used in Besan (Gatte) ki Sabzi
• Besan (gram flour) - 100 grams.
• Tomato ( chopped) - 3 numbers.
• Onion (chopped) - 2 numbers.
• Green chili (chopped) - 4 numbers.
• Ginger and garlic paste - 1 tablespoon.
• Turmeric powder - half tea spoon.
• Mustard paste - half tea spoon.
• Red chili powder - 1/4 tablespoon.
• Coriander powder - 1/4 tablespoon.
• Asafoetida - 1 pinch.
• Cumin seed - 1 tea spoon.
• Carom (ajwain) seed - 1 tea spoon.
• Gram masala - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Salt - to taste.
• Oil - 3 tablespoons.
Method:
  • In a bowl, mix well besan, 2 green chilies, carom, 1/8 tbsp red chili powder and 1 tbsp oil. Add water into besan to make dough.
  • Make a 1 cm diameter round and 5-6 inches long (like seekh kabab).
  • Boil water in a pan. Put besan rolls into boiling water and boil for 10 minutes.
  • Take out the water and cut the besan round (gatte) into small pieces and keep aside.
  • Heat oil, add asafetida, cumin seeds, 2 green chilies, stir-fry till well browned.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and mustard paste and saute for 1 minute.
  • Then add onion, saute till brown and then add tomatoes and saute.
  • Now add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, garam masala and 1.5 cup water and boil for 5 minutes. Now gravy is ready.
  • Put gatte into gravy and boil for 3 minutes (Heat until gravy is thick).

Serve hot with steamed rice or plain paratha.
