1. Take a bowl, add semolina, cumin powder, coriander powder, ginger garlic paste, carom seeds, salt and mix nicely. 2. To it add all purpose flour and mix it, later add yogurt and mix nicely to make dough allow it rest for 5-10 mins. 3. Divide dough into small portion and roll into poori and deep fry in hot oil. 4. Now puffed up sooji dahi poori is ready to serve and can be used for pani puri also.

Head down South and you find that Sunnundalu or Urad dal ladoo is a very popular and healthy sweet prepared during Diwali festival, Baby shower (known as Srimantham in Telugu). Normally our grandmother’s used to prepare these ladoos and store them in airtight boxes and ask us to eat daily one as it has a whole lot of nutrition and health benefits. These ladoos are perhaps the easiest dessert that can be made in no time, keeps well, and tastes yummy and highly nutritious.

Sunnundalu is a very traditional sweet of Andhra. Sunnundalu are made of roasted and ground urad dal , powdered sugar and desi ghee are the only three ingredients mixed together and shaped into round balls. This sweet is much beloved because of its unique taste and nutritional value. This is a famous Andhra delicacy made with pure ghee. These are very easy to prepare and taste superbly delicious. Urad Dal is considered to give strength to the backbone.

When I was a kid, my mom used to make these often. Kids and also the pregnant women are often given this sweet. I guess the reason is it has dal (which gives protein) and ghee which has the fat content is good for the growth of the feotus and the growing kids.

  • 2 – number – cardomom
  • 1/2 – cup – Dry fruits
  • 0 – as need – Ghee
  • 1 – tsp – Rice
  • 1 1/2 – cup- Sugar
  • 2 – cup – Urall dal


  1. Take a pan Dry roast Urad dal till golden brown colour, then add rice and roast for 3min and blend in a blender make a fine powder.Blend Sugar and keep a side.Now take a pan add little oil fry dry fruits and switch of the flame, then add ural dal powder mix well add sugar mix well.

    To make ladoos add enough Ghee mix well and make ladoo.

Urad daal referred to as black gram called minimulu in telugu is used widely in Andhra cooking. As Urad dal is rich in protein so this Andhra sweet dish is a very nutritious dish.
