Tackling Food Allergies

Every thing about Tackling Food Allergies | Vahrehvah :

Some of the most commonly used foods associated with severe allergic reactions include milk, peanuts, eggs, sea foods, sesame, soy, nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans etc) and wheat etc. Food allergies can affect people of any age. However they are particularly common in children.

Food allergy occurs when the body’s immune system responds aggressively to a particular protein or proteins. Often allergic reactions are caused by protein in substances such as food, latex, insect stings or medication. These proteins are known as allergens. Allergic reactions can vary in both type and severity.

They generally develop a different rate, often getting worse quickly. Some of the common symptoms of an allergic reaction are: Rashes Red and itchy skin Swelling on the face, eyes, lips, tongue and throat Vomiting, cramps, weakness, anxiety, distress Rapid heartbeats or else drop in blood pressure or loss of consciousness etc.

Ways to avoid food allergies:

  1. Read labels carefully: When you go to buy food products in the market, read the product label carefully and avoid that contain the specific allergens. It is always best to avoid buying foods that do not list their ingredients.
  2. Check out for cross contamination: Cross contamination occurs often when an allergen is unintentionally transferred to a food product that does not normally contain that allergen. Also avoid bins with bulk food where cross contamination between bins can occur.
  3. Be carefully while eating at a friend’s house or restaurant:  If you are eating at a restaurant or a friend’s house, make sure you tell them about your food allergy so that they take necessary steps to avoid cross-contamination and alert you to any ingredients of concern.
  4. Keep your simple: Have simple foods like baked potato, steamed vegetables etc which are safest to eat.
  5. Avoid fried foods: It is best to avoid fried foods as the frying oil used outside may not be safe and could be ripe for cross-contact.
  6. Be careful with desserts while ordering: Desserts are often a source of unexpected allergens.

Following these simple and easy precautions could save you from food allergies and reduce the chance of food borne illnesses in your family. VahChef Sanjay Thumma Do look out for your favorite and many more yummy, appetizing and exotic recipes at: www.vahrehvah.com
