Description: Tamarind rice also popularly known as Pulihora or Puliyodhara or Chitrannam is a common rice preparation in South Indian cuisine The tamarind rice or pulihora tastes sour, spicy hot and salty all at the same time.

Recipe of Tamarind Rice

Boiled Rice For 5 4 Cup
Cumin Pdr 1 Teaspoons
Sesame Seed Pdr (optional) 1 Tablespoons
Coriander Pdr 1 Teaspoons
Chilli Pdr 1/4 Teaspoons
Hing 1 Pinch
Oil 1 Tablespoons
Chopped Gr Chilli 2 Numbers
Turmeric 1/4 Teaspoons
Red Chilli Whole 3 Piece
Curryleaves 1 Springs
Fenu Greekseeds 1 Pinch
Channadal 1 Tablespoons
Raw Peanuts 2 Tablespoons
Mustardseeds 1/2 Teaspoons
Tamrind Juice 1 Cup

Directions

   cooked rice
  1. DIRECTIONS:-  Heat the oil in the pan and add the whole red chillies.let the chillies to fry for few seconds
then add the mustard seeds.once the chillie are fried they are no longer hot but get milder taste.
When the mustard seeds splutters add the fenugreek seeds.now add the chana dal and peanuts and cook them properly
on medium flame without burning them.then add the curry leaves,chopped green chillies and hing.
Then add the turmeric,as haldi gives the color to the rice add enough turmeric.
Then add the tamarind juice to it and add the dry masalas red chilli pwdr,coriander pwdr and cumin pwdr.
Let the gravy cook till the oil oozees out for 10 to 12mins.while the gravy is cooking in absorbing the juices
toast the seasame seeds and crush them and once the gravy is ready add the pwdr to it and cook it for another 15mins.
check the seasonings and add salt .
Then take your cooked rice and add the tamarind gravy to it mix it and enjoy.
you can make this gravy ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator and mix it with
cooked rice whenever you want.
   1 cup  Tamarind juice
   1tbsp    raw  peanuts
   1 tbsp   chana dal
   1/2 tsp  fenugreek seeds
   1tsp mustard seeds
   1 sprig of curry leaves
   4 to 5 whole red chillies
   1/2 tsp of turmeric
   pinch of hing, 1 1/2 tbsp cooking oil
   optional ingredients :- 1 tsp seasame seeds toasted
                                        2 to 3 chopped green chillies (according to taste)
                                        1/2  tsp of each red chilli pwdr,coriander pwdr and cumin pwdr

Lovely video. I'm able to make it so easily. Few things I observed are Salt is not used and Jaggery also gives good taste to over all receipe. Thanks

First i made it because i missed the tamarid rice i used to get in Singapore whenever we go to temples. It turned out to be the best. Everyone was raving about how it tasted just like the one in Singpore :D Hope to see Sal post more videos and recipes. He brings life back to indian cusine everywhere in the world!!
