Emotional eating is not exactly a eating process when you are really hungry to satisfy hunger but sometimes we turn to food for nourishment, comfort, stress relief, entertainment, distraction, escape or reward. Unfortunately it doesn’t resolve emotional problems and generally makes you feel worse.

Emotional eating is worse because you often eat high-carbohydrates, high-calorie foods with low nutritional value such as ice cream, cookies, chocolates, chips, pizzas, burgers etc to bring down your emotions. Another key factor is the quantity of food that is consumed is the primary difference between emotional eating and binge eating. There are various warning signs for emotional eating.

Studies have shown that about 40% of people tend to eat more when stressed while other 40% eat less and remaining 20% have no change in the amount of food they eat while undergoing stress. The real problem behind emotional eating or binge eating is when food is used as a tool to hide your life issues and emotional feelings thus becoming an addiction.

  1. Eat freshly cooked meals with plenty of vegetables, leafy greens and whole grains.

  4. Eat food only when you feel really hungry.
  5. Don’t overeat. Always leave at least 1/3 to ¼ of stomach empty.

  7. Stop binge eating and engage yourself in tension relieving activities.
  8. Do yoga, meditation and exercise regularly.
  9. Listen to your favorite soothing and pleasant music.
  10. The most important factor is to seek relief without food.

It’s important to understand that emotional eating habit doesn’t develop overnight thus there is no quick fix for breaking free from this habit. Getting over this habit does require a lot of patience and persistence which will get better over time. When it comes to working out, it is essential that you focus on what your body can do.

Focus exclusively on what your body can so and strive to gradually improve your performance to become stronger, more awesome version of yourself. Erase all negative thoughts and be positive and encourage yourself, which could make a huge impact on you.
