Bread pudding is a dessert popular in British cuisine, Puerto Rican cuisine, Mexican cuisine, Argentina, Louisiana Creole and that of the Southern United States, as well as Belgian and French cuisine. Bread pudding is an old fashioned dessert that had its humble beginnings in 13th century England.
It was popularly known as a “poor man’s pudding as it was made from stale leftover bread that was simply moistened in water, to which a little sugar, spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, mace or vanilla and other ingredients were added.The French refer as “pudding” the English name without the word "bread" and the Belgians call it Bodding or broodpudding, which literally translates as bread pudding.
In Spanish it is also referred to as "Capirotada," "Migas" and "Pudín de Pan". The bread is soaked (often overnight), squeezed dry, and mixed with the other ingredients. The mixture is transferred into a dish and baked. It may be served with a sweet sauce of some sort, such as whiskey sauce, rum sauce, or caramel sauce, but is typically sprinkled with sugar and eaten cold in squares or slices.
In Malaysia, bread pudding is consumed with custard sauce. In Hong Kong, bread pudding is usually served with Vanilla Cream Dressing. For a lot of us, it's nostalgia. A yearning for a simpler time when dessert was made from a few common kitchen ingredients. It's also the way it brings everyone into the kitchen, warm with the smell of cinnamon and vanilla fresh from the oven.
In today’s fast track world we find that breads are often made especially for this dessert. Unlike bread puddings of the past, now the bread is moisten in rich mixture (custard) milk, eggs, sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and spices. It is no longer a poor man's pudding. It is now a rich, creamy, dessert that has made its way onto the dessert menus of many fine restaurants.

In a bowl take milk,butter mix well, take curstard powder in a bowl add milk and make a paste mix this mixture to milk mixture keep a side.In another bowl break eggs add cinn powder, vanilla essence, sugar mix all of these now add milk mixture and mix well.Now in a microwave bowl add bread cut into small pices, add rasines,now pour the mixture half and repeat the same again see that the bread is completely disolve in milk mixture.340 f heat for 40 min or till the it changes its colour to light golden brown.

This bread pudding is more of an Indianised simple and easy method where most of the ingredients are available at home. To make Bread Pudding cut the bread slices into medium sized cubes and the choice of whether to remove the bread crusts is yours. The cubes of bread are then placed in a baking pan. Then we need to make the custard which is then poured over the bread cubes.

Take some warm milk in a bowl add butter into it and slightly mix it so that the butter would get melted. Mix custard powder in a small bowl and mix it into this mixture. The custard powder mix would give a nice consistency and texture to the pudding.

You can also prepare the pudding without custard powder. In another bowl, take eggs, add cinnamon powder, vanilla essence and sugar, beat well. Add the milk mixture into this egg mixture and mix well. Take a baking bowl, spread the cut bread pieces, sprinkle raisins some brown sugar or jaggery and pour the milk-egg mixture and spread well, place another layer of bread and pour the milk-egg mixture.

Make sure that all the bread pieces are soaked well in the milk-egg mixture. Bake the pudding at about 340 to 350o F for 45 to 50 mins. Vah! The pudding will have a golden colour on the top layer. A really yummy awesome dessert! Kids would really love it a lot.

You can add chopped nuts, pieces of chocolate, lemon or orange zest, a little alcohol, candied, dried or even fresh fruits like apples and bananas to the pudding for more flavor and texture. Bread pudding can be served warm or cold with a dusting of confectioners' sugar and a dollop of softly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
