Mushroom Fry

Mushroom fry is made of mushroom, onions, tomatoes and other spices to give a distinct flavor and aroma. Mushrooms are very versatile for cooking. They’re consumed raw, often with a dip or added to salads to enhance the flavor. They are also used in thousands of recipes from baking to frying. Mushrooms are also common toppings for steaks, pizza and hamburgers.

Before I start explaining you about the cooking of Mushroom fry, lets us know little about Mushroom. A mushroom is a fleshy fruity body of a fungus. They eat organic matter; they do not photosynthesize like plants do.

The standard for the name "mushroom" is the cultivated white button mushroom. There are a wide variety of mushrooms and all mushrooms are not edible. There are about 38,000 types of mushrooms and all the mushrooms are not edible. There are few mushrooms that are poisonous too. Hence buy the mushroom from your grocer only.

Chinese, Korean, European and Japanese cuisines extensively use edible mushrooms in their cooking. Mushrooms are high in dietary fiber, protein, and vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, biotin, cobalamins, and ascorbic acid. Mushrooms are also a source of some minerals, including selenium, potassium and phosphorus.

Most mushrooms that are sold in supermarkets have been commercially grown on mushroom farms. The most popular of these, Agaricus bisporus, is generally considered safe for most people to eat because it is grown in controlled, sterilized environments, though some individuals do not tolerate it well.

Mushrooms are very healthy, high in nutritional values, low in calories and occasionally used for medicinal purpose. There are three parts to the mushroom, the stem, gills and cap. When you consider wild mushrooms there are literally thousands of different types of mushrooms. Few common types of edible mushrooms are the Button mushrooms, Portobello mushrooms, Shiitake mushrooms and the Crimini Mushrooms.

For preparing the Mushroom fry, Heat oil in a pan, add whole garam masala, cumin seeds and when they crackle add chopped onions, salt, turmeric, ginger garlic paste and fry the onions till they slightly change their color. Add curry leaves and chopped green chillies.

Add tomatoes and cook for few min and add mushrooms and cook till they are soft. In another pan add butter, add crushed garlic, pepper, cumin seeds mixture to it add coriander pd and cumin pd. Add the cooked mushroom mixture and cook till the moisture evaporates and dry. Finish with lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. The Mushroom fry really gives a nice aroma like the lamb fry and is a very good substitute for all the vegetarians.

Button mushrooms have a mild flavor and often take on the taste characteristics of other cooking ingredients. Button mushrooms can be found freshly packaged at grocery stores, canned or dried. Portobello mushrooms have meaty texture are large hence vegetarians often use Portobello mushrooms as a meat substitute in burgers and sandwiches. The most common method of preparing the Portobello mushrooms are is by grilling and this is the best method to bring out the rich flavor.

Shiitake mushroom have a spongy meaty texture with a bit of a woody taste. Shiitake mushrooms are popular in many Asian foods. They are often stir fried along with other ingredients in a variety of Asian recipes. In Japan the Shiitake is used as a main ingredient in miso soup.

Crimini Mushrooms are similar to Button mushrooms in size and texture and a bit more firm than the Button mushroom, more intense meaty and earthy flavoring. The Crimini mushroom is used in the same cooking methods as the button mushroom and a good substitute for the button mushroom for a more intenseflavoring.

You would be surprised that mushrooms are very low in calories and have almost no fat content. Raw Button mushrooms for example only contain 15 calories in a one-cup serving (70g). Mushrooms are low in sodium and sugars and have no cholesterol.

In a 1-cup serving mushrooms contain about 1 gram of dietary fiber. Wow this is the right dish for all those who are dieting and wants to lose weight without missing out on the yummy, delicious taste of the dish. All the vegans do try this out and keep fit.
